    GCSEs are just around the corner and revision is a priority for thousands of students. Exam anxiety is reportedly at record levels, so BBC Bitesize has stepped in.

    Last year, Bitesize asked students from across the UK what type of resources would help them deal with exam stress. The answer they gave us was short, shareable videos featuring young people who've recently taken their exams. 

    The Mind Set is a group of twelve young people, from a range of social backgrounds, with mixed GCSE and Nationals results.

    The Year 10 Assembly on Tuesday 21st March 2017 hosted guest speakers from Cambridge University. Three current Cambridge students came in to speak with Year 10 students about university life in general, as well as the specifics of studying at one of the UK’s top universities.

  • Out & About Project 2017

    21st March 2017 - De Lacy Academy

    A group of students had the opportunity to take part in the 5 week Out & About Project in conjunction with The Hepworth Wakefield.

    They visited Brimham Rocks, Nostell Priory, The Hepworth Wakefield & Yorkshire Sculpture Park exploring the landscapes and enjoying time working together in some of the most beautiful places that are on our doorstep.

    The students have created sculptures and art work and attended a final celebration event at the Hepworth along with other local schools.

    21st March 2017 - De Lacy Academy

    Students and staff at De Lacy are collecting provisions for the local foodbanks. This is such a good cause and will make a difference to lots of families who need this help. Please support us by donating what you can. All donations to be brought into school by the morning of Tuesday 4th April.

    21st March 2017 - The Grove Academy

    This Friday, 24th March, is Red Nose Day raising money for Comic Relief.

    The Grove Academy will be running a non-uniform day for all students and staff, with a contribution of £1 to the Red Nose Day fund.

    The main event of the day is The Great TGA Bake Off, organised by our resident Bake Off genius, Mrs Hamilton.

     Older pupils will lead teams of the younger ones in baking and decorating biscuits. There will be judging following this by an elite team of biscuit experts, with awards and presentations in assembly

    In the English department, and across the school, it has been all about poetry this week! To celebrate World Poetry Day, which has been established as an official celebration by UNESCO since 1999, we have held a series of special assemblies across Years 7-11 highlighting the value and importance of this most personal and expressive of art forms.

    On the 21st March, World Poetry Day, we invited the fantastic poet Gez Walsh, to come and work with groups of Year 7 and 8 students. They enjoyed hearing him perform

    20th March 2017 - De Lacy Academy

    Some of our year 7 and 8 students are at Huddersfield today competing in the West Yorkshire School Games Finals. All girls are representing not only De Lacy but also Wakefield in the trampolining.

    Lauren Green who is a Trampoline Leader from Year 10 will be coaching the teams along with Miss Anfield.

  • Year 9 Rugby News

    20th March 2017 - Garforth Academy

    The Year 9 rugby team played against the reigning Yorkshire Schools Champions tonight, Kings School Pontefract, narrowly losing 22-19.

    It was an unbelievable effort by all the players who showed bravery, determination and teamwork through the entire game.
    The visitors scored in the final minute to take the spoils in a fantastic game of rugby.

  • Young Writers Poetry Competition

    20th March 2017 - Serlby Park Academy

    Pupils from 2NJ have  taken part in a fantastic poetry writing competition entitled 'Poetry Safari'.
    Several of the poems were selected for publication and have now appeared in a brand new book called 'Poetry Safari - Yorkshire.

  • BBC School Report 2017

    17th March 2017 - Garforth Academy

    On Thursday 16th March, 24 of our Y9 students made the news for real as one of over 1,000 schools to participate in this year's BBC School Report.

    Students were able to work together to complete an accomplished bulletin that investigated several stories including the issue of exam stress, the recent local train strikes, the upcoming Academy production of Grease and whether more men should take up yoga.

    Our main aim was to highlight how important women are in society today and to promote our students self esteem and self worth.

    We started as a group looking at influential women and discussing who we look up to and why.
