Sean Cavan

Sean has worked in education for 40 years. He is currently Head of Business Engagement at the Sheffield Institute of Education leading engagement with major national projects that support the professional development of education professionals and has shared his work on education partnership strategies at national and international conferences.

He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Universities’ Council for the Education of Teachers having previously served for 7 years as Vice-Chair and Chair.  In his UCET roles he has worked with Government bodies and agencies on major national initiatives including the development of Teaching Schools, the School Direct model for ITE, the national Masters in Teaching and Learning, the Postgraduate Professional Development programme and the development of accreditation protocols for the National Professional Qualifications framework.

He also serves on a number of other bodies including The Institute for Apprenticeships ITT Trailblazer Group, the Strategic Development Group for the Association of Education Advisors, the National Audit and Risk Chairs Forum and the Advisory Groups for the Early Career Framework and NPQ programmes for the Education Development Trust.

He has extensive experience as an external examiner for MA Education programmes at 7 universities including UCL-IoE, Reading, and Cardiff. He has also developed professional and academic accreditation programmes for the US Department of State, British Council and Fulbright Commission, the UK Association of Education Advisors, the Teacher Development Trust, The Brilliant Club and The National Science Learning Centre.

Previous roles have involved leading the development of major Masters programmes for the ICT and MBA markets in the UK, Europe, the Gulf and Hong Kong and delivering ICT management courses in the UK, US, Canada, Sweden and Italy to a diverse set of clients ranging from the Swedish banking sector to NASA.
